11,529 buildings with 22,447 apartments
At the end of 2025, there were 11,529 residential buildings in Liechtenstein, comprising a total of 22,447 apartments. Compared to the previous year’s figures, this represents an increase of 51 buildings (0.4%) and 232 apartments (1.0%).
19,489 apartments were classified as permanently occupied, meaning they had been registered as occupied at least once during the past two years. Of the permanently occupied apartments, 18,778 were occupied as of the reference date of December 31, 2025. 711 dwellings, or 3.6%, were unoccupied as of the reference date. In the previous year, 3.5% of the permanently occupied dwellings had been unoccupied as of the reference date.
Regarding energy sources in residential buildings, a significant decline in fossil fuel heating systems is evident. The share of oil and gas heating systems at the end of 2025 is 1.0 percentage points and 1.2 percentage points lower, respectively, than at the end of 2024. During the same period, heat pumps have increased by 2.0 percentage points.
