Liechtenstein is supporting the emergency relief programme of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) in Myanmar with CHF 100,000. This donation reinforces the solidarity of the Liechtenstein population with Myanmar, after the Liechtenstein Red Cross (LRK) has collected numerous donations for the IFRC aid program and supplemented the total contribution with its own resources.
On 28 March 2025, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar. Thousands of people died, many were injured, and countless others lost their homes. The disaster hit a region already heavily affected by conflict and previous crises.
The aid programme of the Myanmar Red Cross Society (MRCS), supported by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), aims to assist over 100,000 particularly affected people. It includes emergency shelter, cash assistance, medical care, clean water, and psychosocial support. Reconstruction and disaster preparedness activities are also part of the response.
Close cooperation with the MRCS allows for rapid and targeted assistance, even in hard-to-reach areas. With their joint contribution Liechtenstein and the Liechtenstein Red Cross are helping to alleviate suffering and supporting long-term recovery in one of the rgeions in Asia most severely affected by humanitarian need.
