Liechtenstein is making a contribution of CHF 92,475 to support the aid programme of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Iraq.
Despite the end of large-scale military operations, the humanitarian situation in Iraq remains tense in 2024. Millions of people are still dependent on humanitarian aid. The fragile security situation and destroyed infrastructure make it difficult for displaced people to return and rebuild.
The ICRC's aid programme focuses on supporting particularly vulnerable groups such as prisoners, displaced families, returnees, missing persons and people with disabilities. It supports the authorities in clarifying the whereabouts of missing persons and helps families affected by the conflict to improve access to clean water and health services. Economic resilience programmes also promote the reconstruction of livelihoods. Another focus is on raising awareness of the dangers of landmines.
Liechtenstein's contribution helps the ICRC to continue these important humanitarian measures. Iraq is one of the ICRC's largest and most underfunded operations, and the support is helping to alleviate the suffering of the Iraqi people.
