From the 2025/2026 school and apprenticeship year, all pupils and apprentices living in Liechtenstein are entitled to a free annual subscription for the LIEmobil network. All students are eligible until they complete their schooling or apprenticeship. It will be possible to purchase the education travelcard from July. This is valid from August 1. Anyone who travels without a valid travelcard risks a fine.
In June 2024, Parliament decided that from the 2025/2026 school year, all pupils and students living in Liechtenstein will receive a free annual public transport season ticket with LIEmobil. The new education travelcard replaces the previous school travelcard. The costs for the Principality of Liechtenstein amount to a maximum of CHF 950,000.
The education travelcard is valid 365 days a year on the entire LIEmobil network in Liechtenstein as well as to Sargans Bahnhof, Sevelen Post, Buchs Bahnhof, Sennwald Post and Feldkirch Bahnhof.
Who is eligible?
Schoolchildren are all persons in Liechtenstein from kindergarten age. Persons up to the age of 6 already travel free of charge with LIEmobil.
All schoolchildren and apprentices resident in Liechtenstein are eligible - regardless of whether they attend a public or private school in Liechtenstein or abroad or are completing their apprenticeship in Liechtenstein or abroad. Persons pursuing a tertiary education (HF, FH, college, university, ...) are not eligible.
Ordering possible from the beginning of July - valid from August 1
The free educational subscription starts in July - in good time before the start of school or an apprenticeship. The subscription is valid from August 1 to July 31 of the following year. It can be ordered conveniently online. Detailed information on the ordering process will be communicated in July by the education authority, the Office for Vocational Training and Career Guidance (ABB) and LIEmobil.
The education subscription is not automatically renewed. If you would like to use it, you must purchase a new one every year. Pupils and learners are responsible for purchasing the season ticket in good time. Anyone traveling without a valid travelcard risks a fine.
The education travelcard is delivered digitally to the smartphone immediately after purchase. No photo is required for the digital subscription. For people without a smartphone, there is the option of a physical subscription on a plastic card. A photo is required for the plastic card. This can be uploaded during the ordering process.
Teachers require a valid ticket
Teachers are not entitled to the free education travelcard. They need a regular ticket when traveling with their classes.
Subscription available from July 2025
As soon as the ordering process is open, the education authority, ABB and LIEmobil will inform the public and eligible persons.
