Economic Situation Remains Cautious
The Economic Report provides information on economic developments in Liechtenstein and offers an overview of the economic situation and the outlook in the most important export markets.
Economic momentum in Liechtenstein presents a mixed picture. Overall, employment trended slightly upward in the first half of 2026. Employment continues to rise in the service sector, while the industrial sector has seen a decline in employment. Direct exports of goods declined in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period a year earlier. Companies generally assessed the overall situation as good to satisfactory and expect business and earnings conditions to remain stable. When it comes to production constraints, there is a clear sectoral divide: While the service sector is heavily affected by labor shortages, this issue currently plays hardly any role in the industrial sector. There, insufficient demand is the primary obstacle. In the Swiss franc currency area, inflation has risen but remains low by international standards.
Despite the negative impacts of the Iran conflict, global economic growth in the first half of 2026 was more moderate but proved robust in many countries. According to the Economic Outlook, global economic growth will continue to be significantly supported by high levels of investment in artificial intelligence (AI).
