National Road Office launches online eAuction for motor vehicle license plates
The National Road Office (NRO) is taking another step towards digitalization: From now on, sought-after license plates will no longer be auctioned in person at the inspection hall, but conveniently online. With the new “eAuction” platform, interested parties can place their bids anytime and from anywhere – without the need to travel and regardless of opening hours.
In addition to offering significantly greater flexibility for the public, this change also provides benefits in terms of data protection, as the auctions will no longer take place publicly on-site. The solution, which has already proven itself at several Road Traffic Offices in Switzerland, was reviewed, adapted, and seamlessly integrated into existing systems by the NRO in cooperation with the Office of Information Technology. All current security and technical requirements have been fully met.
With this step, the NRO is creating a modern, user-friendly service and paving the way for a contemporary handling of license plate auctions.
The first online auction will take place from 15 August to 15 September 2025.
Participation requires only a quick and straightforward registration. Register now and you may soon secure your desired license plate. Click here to access the eAuction
