Contribution to the ICRC for forgotten humanitarian crisis in Syria

Liechtenstein is supporting the aid program of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Syria with a contribution of CHF 100,000.

The armed conflicts in Syria are still ongoing after more than 13 years. The extent of the humanitarian need is enormous and has worsened since last year. According to the UN, 16.7 million people in Syria are dependent on humanitarian aid, including 7.5 million children. Over 12 million people have been internally displaced by the war or have fled to neighboring countries. Food, medicine and other essential goods are often unavailable or unaffordable. The situation is further exacerbated by climate shocks and the lingering effects of the February 2023 earthquakes.

In Syria, the ICRC is working to ensure compliance with international humanitarian law, visits prisoners and supports family reunions. It also provides emergency aid for displaced people in camps who receive no other support. The ICRC also supports access to drinking water, sanitation, medical facilities and electricity for millions of people.
