9. Pedagogical dialog: Focus on positive psychology

On 12 March 2025, the Office of Education organized the 9th Pedagogical Dialogue, which was all about positive psychology. Around 160 teachers, principals and employees of the Office of Education met at the Ballenlager Vaduz (Spörry-Areal) to discuss the importance of resilience and confidence in challenging times with guest speaker Bertram Strolz - in a well-founded but also humorous way.

How can we counter feelings of helplessness and powerlessness? How do we develop an attitude that radiates confidence and optimism and conveys the feeling of continuing to be effective? To answer these questions, the well-known educator and psychotherapist Bertram Strolz introduced us to scientific findings and practical implementation options from positive psychology. In addition to theoretical principles, the focus was on practical tools that can be used both individually and in the school environment. The aim is to strengthen the psychological immune system and build resilience for future challenges. This is particularly essential in education: teachers are not just imparters of knowledge, but also role models, motivators and shapers of the future. Their work requires strength, commitment and perseverance - which makes it all the more important to provide them with effective strategies.

Consciously shaping life: The PERMA model as a guide

Based on the PERMA model (Positive Emotions, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, Achievement), Strolz explained the key factors that contribute to long-term well-being and happiness. He emphasized: "Life alone is not enough. We have to consciously shape it and take it into our own hands." Each individual is responsible for their own health. However, positive psychology is not a panacea, but a tool that allows for both light and shade. "Light and shadow are two sides of the same coin - both have their place." Grief should also be valued as a basic human emotion, as it acts as "wound management for the soul".
With a successful mixture of personal anecdotes and empirical facts, Strolz provided an inspiring overview of the topic. Following the discussion and Q&A session, a drinks reception provided an opportunity to continue the conversation in a relaxed atmosphere.
