Legal basis/instructions

Legal basis

The Liechtenstein legal basis for cadastral surveying (land register surveying) is modeled on Swiss surveying law. Land register surveying is based on the technical principles of Swiss national surveying and its fixed point network. However, Liechtenstein legislation has been adapted to the specific circumstances in Liechtenstein.

The current legal basis for surveying law is the Law of May 19, 2005 on Official Surveying (Surveying Act; VermG). In implementation of the Act, the Government issued the Ordinance on Official Surveying (Ordinance on Official Surveying; VermV) of July 21, 2005.

Technical guidelines

In addition to the legal basis, the government has issued technical guidelines for the recording and updating of the official cadastral survey. A detailed structure of the objects to be surveyed is defined in the Liechtenstein data catalog and described in INTERLIS.

Various accuracy levels, the so-called instruction zones or tolerance levels, are taken into account when carrying out the work. The provisions on the tolerance limits are taken unchanged from the Swiss provisions.
