Legislation
Liechtenstein ratified the Kyoto Protocol in 2004, thereby entering into the international legal obligation to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 8% relative to 1990. Based on this treaty, several resolutions have been passed by the United Nations Climate Change Conferences (COPs) and the Meetings of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (MOPs), which must be implemented by the States Parties.
Moreover, as a member of EFTA, Liechtenstein is an active partner of the EU within the European Economic Area (EEA), the legal documents of which relating to the Single Market therefore also apply to Liechtenstein. This is in particular true of Directive 2003/87/EC.
The subfolders "National Law" and "International Law" contain the most important legal foundations at the UN and EEA level.
